Places and Settings

The majority of the first part of the novel takes place in the house of the First/Second Eric Sanderson. No exact address and/or town is listed but we do know he lives in England somehwere, probably in Derby, which, ironically, is known as the ghost capital of England.

In other parts of the book, the following places and/or settings are referenced:

  1. Naxos, Greece: The island where First Eric Sanderson and Clio are vacationing when her accident happens.
    1. Ariadne's Arch : Clio and Eric describe this as the place where the daughter of the king Minos of Crete watched Theseus leave for Athens without her; she married Bacchus and ended up living happily ever after. There is no such place in Naxos; the place might correspond in fact to the remains of the Temple of Apollo.

  2. The East to West Trail: The road trip that Second Eric Sanderson embarks upon to find Dr. Trey Fidorous
    1. Hull, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Blackpool.
  3. The Willows Hotel: The place where Second Eric Sanderson stays when he reaches Greater Manchester
    1. Owned by "Aunty" Ruth and John
  4. The Manor Infirmary: The place where Second Eric Sanderson meets Mr. Nobody
  5. Deansgate: The physical location where the entrance to ThERa is located

  6. ThERa is the paper tunnel / igloo that has walls made of French, German, Greek, Russian, old English, Chinese, and Japanese where the air inside "smells like the pages of a second hand Charles Dickens novel."
