Dissociative Disorders

When Second Eric Sanderson visits Dr. Randle, she tells him he suffers from a dissociative disorder. He has no physical symptoms but he can't remember a single thing about his life, his personality or the events the brought him to her in the first place. In the three years since Clio drowned, he has regressed 11 times. Each recurrance means that Eric remembers less and less of himself. The problem Eric suffers from 'twists, confuses, and rewrites memories and events in the mind of the patient.'

People suffering from dissociative disorders often also have a rare condition called 'fugue' which finds them fighting the urge to run away. Other than dissociative amnesia, like Eric's, other disorders include: Dissociative identity disorder (also known as multiple personality disorder) and Depersonalization disorder.

For the most part, dissociative disorders are rare, and psychologists / psychiatrists often treat patients with hypnosis, long-term psychotherapy, and sometimes a medicine called Pentothal (thiopental).
